Derrick Wood joined the Unit of Computer Science at McMaster University in 1970. He was Chair of Computer Science from 1979 to 1982. From 1982 to 1992 he was a Professor in the Department of Computer Science, University of Waterloo. For three years he served as Director of the Data Structuring Group. Before joining HKUST in 1995, he was a Professor in the Department of Computer Science, University of Western Ontario. He has published widely in a number of research areas and has written two textbooks, "Theory of Computation," published by John Wiley, and "Data Structures, Algorithms, and Performance", published by Addison-Wesley.
