Born in Solingen, Germany. Programmer with Farbenfabriken Bayer AG, Leverkusen, 1969-1972. Study of Industrial Engineering (Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen) at the University of Karlsruhe (TH). Diploma 1978. Research Assistant (wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter) until 1983 and Assistant Professor (Hochschulassistent) until 1985. Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of Karlsruhe (TH) 1982 and Habilitation in Applied Computer Science 1985. Associate Professor for Computer Science at the Technical University of Darmstadt 1986 and Full Professor for Computer Science at the University of Mannheim 1987-1994; since then Full Professor of Computer Science at the University of Freiburg i.Br.
