Curriculum Vitae:

Gerry McAllister is Head of School of Computing and Mathematics at the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland. He graduated with BSc and MSc in Electronic Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast and subsequently a PhD in Computer Science at the University of Ulster. His main teaching topics are in Computer Communications, Computer Networks and Computer Architecture at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. He has been active in the use of Virtual Learning Environments, particularly for assessment of large student cohorts. In addition he has had particular responsibility for work placement programs associated with undergraduate studies.

He is currently Director of the Higher Education Academy subject Network for Information and Computer Sciences - http://www.ics.heacademy.ac.uk/ , a member of the British Computer Society (BCS) Education and Training Forum, an advisory group member of the Centre for Open Learning of Maths, Science, Computing and Technology (COLMSCT) http://cetl.open.ac.uk/colmsct/ at the Open University, a member of the Northern Ireland Momentum Sector Training Council Advisory Forum and a member of the Council of Professors and Heads of Computing (CPHC) Learning Development Group. He has been program chair for the HE Academy – ICS network Annual Conference for 4 consecutive years, a reviewer for Academy Teaching Development funds and a program committee member of the International Program Committee for Software Engineering and Applications. He has held a number of Knowledge Transfer program awards and currently holds a FUSION program funding award for Irish Academic/Industrial collaboration.
