Gio Wiederhold has been on the faculty of Stanford University since 1976 and is now a professor of Computer Science and courtesy appointments in of Medicine and Electrical Engineering. He has supervised 30 PhD theses in these departments. During 1991-1994 Gio was on leave performing program management at ARPA. His research focuses on the application and development of knowledge-based techniques for large-scale information and software systems.
From 1982-1992 he was editor and subsequently editor-in-chief of ACM's Transactions on Database Systems, and is an associate editor of Springer Verlag's M.D.Computing. Since 1990 he has been Member, Advisory Committee, IEICE Transactions on Informations and Systems. Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers, Japan. He has also been an editor of the IEEE Computer and IEEE Expert magazines. He is now on ACM's publication board, developing plans for ACM's electronic library.
Gio Wiederhold received a degree in Aeronautical Engineering in Holland in 1957 and a PhD in Medical Information Science from the University of California at San Francisco in 1976. He is a fellow of the ACMI, THE IEEE, and the ACM.
