Born 1939 in Braubach/Germany. Studies of mathematics and physics at the universities of Heidelberg and Saarbruecken. Graduation 1968 (Diploma). Computer Architecture Consultant with Telefunken for three years. 1965-1969 assistant at two institutes for Computer Science at Hannover and Erlangen. 1968 Dr.-Ing. 1970-1971 project leader at the Buderus'sche Eisenwerke Wetzlar. 1972-1974 leader of a research group "Data processing in organisms and computers" again at the University Erlangen-Nuernberg. 1974-1989 full professor for Theoretical Computer Science at Technical University Braunschweig. Since 1989 full professor at University Karlsruhe (TH). Since 1986 member of the "Braunschweigische Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft". 1992 award of the (Hungarian) John von Neumann Society. 1981-1987 chairman of the deans' conference. 1990-1991 vicepresident and 1992-1992 president of the "Gesellschaft fuer Informatik". Since 1993 one of the vicepresidents of CEPIS (Council of European Professional Informatics Societies).
