- 1994: Habilitation in Computer Science at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, Free University of Berlin. The Habilitation is a German title that can be only obtained after the PhD. Habilitation thesis: "The Theory of Neural Networks" (in German). Published by Springer-Verlag, Berlin.
- 1988: PhD (summa cum laude) at the Otto Suhr Institute, Free University of Berlin (PhD in Economics and Social Sciences). Thesis: "On the History of the Critique of Political Economy" (in German). Published by Rotbuch Verlag, Berlin.
