  • Born 04 Nov 1948 in Keitele, Finland.
  • Baccalaureat: 1967 in Kiuruvesi, Finland.
  • MSc in 1970 and PhD in 1974 in mathematics at the University of Turku, Finland.
  • Positions: Professor in Computer Science at the University of Joensuu (Finland) since 1990.
  • Positions held: Assistant at Mathematics Department (Univ. Turku) from 1970 to 1979. PostDoc fellow at the Computer Science Department, McMaster Univeristy, Canada, for the academic year 1977-1978.
  • Senior lecturer at Computer Science Department (Univ. Turku) from 1979 to 1987.
  • Professor in Computer Science at the University of Kuopio (Finland) from 1987 to 1990.

Main Research Interests:

  • theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence in general
  • complexity of algorithms
  • models of parallel computing (main interest)
  • logic programming
  • syntax directed text processing
