Curriculum Vitae:
Born on December 6, 1950, married, two children. Graduated of the Faculty of
Mathematics of the University of Bucharest (Computer Science specialization)
in 1874. PhD in the same faculty in 1977. Positions in the University of
Bucharest between 1978 and 1990, researcher in the Institute of Mathematics
of the Romanian Academy after 1990 (senior researcher after 1994). Ramon y
Cajal
research position in Spain (Tarragona and Sevilla) after 2001.
Gheorghe Paun has published more than 400 papers in automata and language
theory,
DNA and membrane computing (he is the initiator of this last domain, which
is now
one of the most active areas of natural computing -- see
http://psystems.disco.unimib.it).
He has published several monographs in Romanian and English, has (co)edited
more than
thirty collective volumes and several special issues of journals. He is/was
a member of
editorial committees of numerous international journals, of steering
committees and
program committees of international conferences.
Research visits to many universities from Europe, USA, Canada, Japan,
China, with long stays
in Germany, Finland, Spain; collaborations with many researchers from many
countries.
Member of the Romanian Academy (since 1997), honorary degrees in China and
Republic of Moldova.
Author of fiction books (member of the Romanian Writers Association), of
books about logical games, and mathematical "popularization" (more than twenty books in total), special interest for GO (the first president of the Romanian GO Federation, 1990-1992).
