Cunsheng DING was educated at Shaanxi Normal University; Northwestern Telecommunications Engineering Institute (M.Sc.), Xian, China; The University of Karlsruhe, Germany; and The University of Turku (Ph.D under the supervision of Academy Professor Arto Salomaa), Turku, Finland. His education has a background in both computer science and applied mathematics.
Before working as a lecturer in 1988 at Xidian University in China, he was an engineer at the Xian Foreign Language Institute for more than four years. He was with the European Institute for Systems Security in Germany from October 1992 to August 1994. In July 1997 he moved to the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems, The National University of Singapore, and was an assistant professor for three years there. Since July 2000 he has been with the Department of Computer Science at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong, China.
Dr. Ding's main research fields are cryptography, coding theory and computer security. He was the guest editor for three journal special issues on cryptography and coding theory for Theoretical Computer Science, Information and Computation, and Journal of Complexity. Since 2001 he is an editor of the Journal of Communications and Networks.
